Severe weather & alerts

What should I do during a power outage?

Use flashlights, report the outage to your utility, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and unplug sensitive electronics. Stay away from downed power lines. Run portable generators outdoors at least 20 feet from windows, doors, and vents; never use one in a home or garage. Put medical-device and refrigerated-medicine backup plans into action early, and leave for a safer heated or cooled place if indoor conditions become dangerous.
