Why is it raining when the forecast said it would be sunny?

Weather forecasts are predictions rather than guarantees. Local showers and thunderstorms can develop on scales smaller than a broad city forecast can represent. Terrain, coastal effects and rapidly developing convection can also cause conditions to differ from the general forecast. When outdoor plans are important, checking the hourly forecast and radar shortly before leaving can provide more useful information than an earlier daily forecast.
